This is the hour. Cyber-guerillas rise up!

For over 5000 years, an underground war has played out between state civilization and free society.

This war is not merely a physical one, but a spiritual war.

Today the struggle continues. Life evolves and moves upwards through the efforts of society. The state as a parasite harvests this human energy for its own survival.

But grand events are playing out. The pendulum swings towards freedom. This is the hour. Cyber-guerillas rise up!

RESISTANCE IS LIFE!

Welcome to the Dark Forest - a pathway to resistance
Juraj Bednar

Resisting by leaving into a parallel society - be it Galt’s Gulch or the Lunarpunk’s Dark Forest - seems like giving up. The big and hierarchical has won and we withdraw into our little bunker. Or do we? The long-tail of cryptoanarchy, fringe spaces and magical dark forests might contain many surprises. Why peer to peer adoption, almost invisible interactions and cryptoanarchist projects actually matter more than even the cryptoanarchists believe.

While also raising the bar for default transaction privacy?

This talk will cover the technical foundations of the Taproot Assets protocol, and focus on how client-side validation enables new dimensions in transaction privacy and expressiveness, without sacrificing on scalability or complexity.

Is there a future for hackerspaces? Is there a future for humanity? If so, the keys lay with community. We need community. Community is hard work. We humans are not necessarily good at it. Mix in the rise of authoritarianism, manipulation through "social" media, bad actors, trolling, the skyrocketing cost of real estate, the ability for lefty-identified people to be mean to each other -- and the result is a serious threat to the future of our communities. -How technology has been a large driver of necessitating (and facilitating) strong privacy
-How regulation, laws, "fraud prevention", etc are eroding privacy and security

Crypto as a Revolutionary Power Centre
Jarrad Hope

Crypto has spawned an entire industry. Today, we command $1T in capital with which to pursue the depoliticisation of money and the creation of a decentralised financial system. Fifteen years on, the political formula that underpinned crypto's rise – with its origins in libertarian, extropian, and cypherpunk ideals – remains largely unchanged. In the absence of political thought development, we remain unable to understand the true nature of blockchain-based orders. In this talk, Jarrad views crypto through the lens of Bertrand de Jouvenel’s political works and those of other elite theorists. By casting the space as a new centre of power, he hopes to shed light on who we are, and what our futures may hold.

The road to freedom and privacy through security and user experience
Ryan Lackey

Cypherpunks and allies want a new world of finance and technology — individual freedom, non-violence, permissionless innovation, and human flourishing. Replacing current systems (governments built for the world of the past, complex IT systems built with layer of layer of unmaintainable patches and spaghetti, and the omnipresent fear that those more willing to initiate force against those less powerful can impose their will) is desirable, and this weekend we’ve discussed a lot about what this world will be like, and why it is needed.

In order to remake the world as we would like it, we have to make some substantial contributions as technologists, activists, and supporters to solve some of the obvious and major roadblocks to broad adoption.

Mutator Sets and their Application to Scalable Privacy
Alan Szepieniec

A mutator set is a cryptographic data structure for efficiently authenticating operations on large sets, similar to a Merkle tree but with important features for privacy:
- you can add items to the set;
- you can remove items from the set;
- you cannot link additions to removals.

Depending on your perspective, it is a) a succinct decoy-and-nullifier set such as used in ZCash and Monero (but without an every-expanding nullifier set); b) a cryptographic accumulator scheme with privacy-preserving set updates; or c) a mixnet without operators. In the context of cryptocurrencies, mutator sets are capable of achieving scalable privacy.

Tornado Cash and Government Desperation
Seth For Privacy

Almost precisely one year after the U.S. Treasury sanctioned the Tornado Cash project and tool itself, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) took another monumental leap in the war on privacy by charging the founders of Tornado Cash with money transmission, money laundering, and breaking U.S. sanctions law. The rapidly expanding legal aggression against privacy tools for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum is beginning to show clear signs of desperation by the U.S government. If they can’t outright prevent the use of these decentralized and autonomous tools, they’ll instead turn to legal and regulatory pressure to leverage fear and uncertainty as chilling agents against the privacy-focused developer community.

The DOJ has shown themselves in the indictment to either be willingly manipulating the public by putting forward a false view of Tornado Cash, or simply not understand Tornado Cash at a fundamental technical level. In order to dispel the fog of war being placed by the DOJ in this indictment, let’s walk through what Tornado Cash is and how it works first.

The Sovereign Stack
odysseas

“Software is eating the world,” proclaimed Marc Andreessen ten years ago.

Software is indeed eating the world, but it made a pact with the devil to scale so fast. The software stack got obscenely centralized, with an exceedingly small number of players as we approached the hardware running our favorite software in the clouds. The Kubernetes scale is not only problematic about its deployment complexity but also about its philosophical promise. A single cloud to rule them all, and by all, I mean everyone.

Counter to the dystopian reality, another breed of software rapidly expands in the field of p2p and blockchain.

Panel discussion | End of Empire and Rise of the Parallel Society
Jarrad Hope, Ryan Lackey, Amir Taaki, Pavol Luptak

We stand at the precipice and the end of the empire. From this will emerge political strains vying to define the next emergent era.

The original vision of crypto was to expand the space of freedom, rendering a parallel economic society free from the influence of state domination. Gradually our community was infiltrated by statists and scammers who clouded that vision.

States will react with force by combining the IRS with the CIA, increasingly unmasking their authoritarian tendency as we raise the stakes. For inevitably, cybermoney controlled by markets will transcend fiat money issued by states. The high priority is to step up our game and start moving towards the realization of this eventuality.

We must get back on track, and formulate a paradigm that can enable us to unlock the original promise still latent within this tech. But still important questions remain on metaphysics, philosophy, strategy, and tactics. This panel will discuss the core heart of our movement- its vision.

Free Software has been wildly successful, but it is also heavily infiltrated and captured by hostile predatory corporations. The biggest issue facing the movement has been the lack of funding. Computing itself which once was about interlinking systems has started looking into where users are trapped on spying devices slaves to content delivered by "the cloud".

How do we formulate and orient the modern vision of computing towards society? How can we construct a collaborative p2p paradigm that empowers users rather than making them farm animals for surveillance megasystems? How can we utilize modern cryptocurrency and token-econ techniques to enable value capture for provisioning services?

Ocean of Air
Manel De Aguas

The reality that surrounds us is full of elements that are imperceptible to the human species. However, in nature, we find a great diversity of species that have abilities to perceive other qualities of the environment. How could the human being add these new perceptions in order to reveal the wide spectrum of invisible elements that surround him? In this talk, the artist invites us to learn about Cyborg Art, transpecies identity and the new possibilities we have to extend our perception through cybernetics.

Your first Open Source contribution
Martin Habovštiak

Open Source is a great way to resist backdoored software but it needs more love! You don't have to be a programmer to help. Improving documentation and other things is a completely valid way to contribute.

By contributing you make things better but also you're improving your skills and increasing your reputation which may be invaluable when searching for a job. It can be a way to meet new people, learn from them and have fun together.

You will be guided through the whole process of contributing to Open Source by a person who has several years of experience. Together we will make the Open Source world a bit better. Even a small amount counts.

Please bring a laptop. To make things quicker try to think if there's something in an Open Source project you use that you find annoying or wrong. Maybe it's a typo or a trivial bug. Check if the code is hosted on GitHub, GitLab or any other platform and make sure to create an account on the platform.

Why Freedom Always Slides Backward
Paul Rosenberg

We’ve all seen it: Some person or group makes a notable move forward, into or in support of human liberty. Then, after some time, they begin sliding back to the old way. They have justifications for their retracement, of course, but there’s no denying that it was a retracement.

There is a reason for this, and we can do something about it!

Lets build a mesh network on Bitcoin!
Chandran

Community mesh networks faced range/hardware constraints and lacked a way to transfer their infrastructure cost from service providers to users in the past. Today, we don't have any excuses—LOT49 tackles lightning payments between mesh nodes, and cheap LoRa devices with in-built ESP430s can bridge between WiFi and distant clusters of nodes. I will bring some of these LoRa devices for a hands-on DIY session. Let us build the future that we want to see!
