“Software is eating the world,” proclaimed Marc Andreessen ten years ago.
Software is indeed eating the world, but it made a pact with the devil to scale so fast. The software stack got obscenely centralized, with an exceedingly small number of players as we approached the hardware running our favorite software in the clouds. The Kubernetes scale is not only problematic about its deployment complexity but also about its philosophical promise. A single cloud to rule them all, and by all, I mean everyone.
Counter to the dystopian reality, another breed of software rapidly expands in the field of p2p and blockchain.
